LOVE BIRDS, A NOVEL...The Saga Continues...

CHAPTER EIGHT
NAOMI FALLS SICK
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER, 18, 19:00hrs
As promised, the parents of Naomi, and Henry organized a family get together for their kids. The venue was Naomi’s home; it was a celebration of success, life and health. There was lots of everything; food, drinks, and fun. Meanwhile at the backyard, Naomi and Henry were alone engrossed in a romantic tete a tete.
“This will be a bond of my love for you” Henry said as he brought out a gold necklace from its case and wrapped it round Naomi’s neck
“As long as it remains on your neck, our love lives, till death do us part” he added.
“Oh thanks. I love it” she said as they hugged each other and she left to show it to her mum. Shortly afterwards, in an abrupt and scary manner, Naomi collapsed holding her chest. She just had a heart failure and was rushed to the hospital, where the Doctor diagnosed a critical heart malfunctioning and the need for a prolonged use of an artificial ventilator. Henry’s parents had stayed back, with Rooney to watch over the house, while Henry went with them to the hospital.
“Your daughter’s life is standing on the rope. She has a rare, but severe case of atherosclerosis, and as we speak she is in a coma and may be like that for months. I can’t say specifically how many months, but I bet she won’t be getting out anytime soon. But not to worry she’s been placed on an artificial ventilator, and may be using for months after she’s discharged, but you see these things are very costly these days, and it may take long before she gets another attack. But that doesn’t mean she is alright. She might even need a heart transplant if she has another attack after this” Dr. Bristol, Naomi’s family doctor, a thin tall British man in his late fifties explained gesticulating more than was necessary.
“A heart transplant” Mrs. Graham asked in a frantic tone, but not expecting a response.
“Doctor, that girl lying there is all I’ve got. She’s my life, my joy, my hope. Look Doctor you have to save her life” she said almost shouting, pulling on the doctor’s white neatly ironed coat, shedding tears as though her whole life was tied to Naomi’s. At this point Mr. Graham reached for her shoulders and gently pulled her back.
“It’s okay darling. Our daughter will not die” he consoled his wife who now cried on his shoulders.
“Yes Mrs. Graham, Naomi is not going to die” Henry chipped in trying to hold back his tears.
“She may also need to stick to some very costly medications after her discharge” Dr. Bristol added. He seemed to be very money conscious.
“That’s okay doctor” money is not the problem.
“Just do all you can to save our daughter’s life, she’s all we’ve got” Mr. Graham said. “We’ll keep checking on her” he added as they all left the doctor’s office face down, feeling depressed. It was like their whole world had just collapsed on them.
