ENSLAVED II

Our children were taken away from us,
Our wives mistreated and made to look like chaffs,
Being tossed to and fro by temperate winds,
Our kinsmen were degraded,
Our rights and lives infringed upon and placed in shambles,

We longed and desired all day to see the beam of freedom,
To behold the dawn of liberty,
Our skills and talents were thrown to the dogs,
Our culture and heritage went into obscurity,
We were sold to the white tradition,
Endured with painful hearts, the foreign rod of war,

We wasted away on temperate shores and islands,
Traded upon as goods for worthless pieces of cowries,
We became slaves in the hands of our captors,
Then we cried out like restless souls in the deepest part of hell,
Oh! When shall we break away from the shackles of penury,
and the chains of captivity,
When shall we return to our fatherland,
To the home of our origin,
To the place of our birth,
Let them bring back our songs,
So that we the people can sing the songs of freedom,
And dance the dance of liberty.
