TEACH THE BLACK CHILD III

Please teach the black girl to sing her own songs,
Write her own books,
Write her own history,
Tell her own story,
Make and star in her own plays,
For it is a shame to let a stranger build your house!
Teach her to be proud of her voice,
Proud of her laughter,
And proud of her spirit,
Please teach her that her black is beautiful, and she is beautifully black!
Teach her there is pride in her skin,
Teach her she is beautiful and therefore must be treated as such!
Teach her to define her destiny, and not let her destiny define her,
Teach her not to let history or society define her success,
But to let her success define history and society!
Teach the black child!

Teach the black child that she doesn't have to sell her purity and personality for authority,
Power and fame,
Teach her that there is authority and fame in her purity and personality,
Teach her she is not a "weaker vessel", but a strong black woman!
Teach her her past cannot be revived, but her beauty has so many lives,
Please teach the black child that education begins with himself,
An empty vessel can be filled with the wine of deciet and lies,
Please teach the black child to be wise,
Teach him to be strong,
Teach him to be conscious,
Teach him to be him,
Teach him to be resilient,
Teach him to be optimistic,
Teach him to be insightful...
Teach the black child!
