A COLD WINTER NIGHT

The night is so cold, freezing and chilling,
The leaves and trees are dried, shivering and falling,
The mountains are harder,
Their tops snow-capped and whiter,

The mistletoes are all lighted up,
The reindeers are all out,
The elves are all ready to go all out,
And Santa is getting his suite dry-cleaned,
The children are all excited,
I could even see the one-horse open sleigh,
It seems like Santa is on his way,
With lots of gifts in his sleigh,
Reminiscent, these sights are of a very special season,

It is true we can no longer go to the beaches, or have a suntan,
Neither can the kids go skating,
Or eat fresh apples from the apple trees anymore,
But look on the bright side, it's at such a time as this,
That we bury the hatchet in feuds from months past,
That we get to spend memorable moments with our loved ones,
Share the union and togetherness of the family,
Sit by the fire and feel its warmth,
It's at such a time as this, that opportunities present themselves for us to express our love to the ones we care about,
And some may also fall in love, as their loneliness and heart-break, they forget about.
Merry Christmas!

GOD

God is the light of our lives,
In Him is no darkness,
He is justice,
In His ways is vindication for the just,
He is merciful,
In His thoughts is no inhumanity,
His words are always true,
Unaltered in the midst of changing times and varying seasons,

God is powerful,
In Him is no weakness,
He is integrity,
In Him is no fallacy,
He is unchangeable,
In Him is no shadow of turning,
He is perfect,
In His existence, infallibility lies,

God is endless,
In Him is the beginning,
He is a spirit,
In Him is no mortality,
He is love,
In Him is no hate,
And He is awesome,
In Him is all that make mere mortals awe-struck!

EZEWAANYI (THE GODDESS OF BEAUTY)

She is the beauty of the morning,
The sun rises at the sight of her,
And the moon waxes and glows brighter in her presence,
She is the goddess of beauty,
And the receptacle of beauty,

She is the rising sun that outshines the darkness of the gloomy days,
She is the bright and morning star, twinkling and sparkling with each graceful, sinuous movement of her sensual body,
The trees and grasses to her ravishing nature wave,
And the birds, songs of her sweetness sing,
She is the glory of beauty,

Upon the mind, the smoothness and glow of her round face, delicately decorated by radiant eyes, tender nose, and sensuous lips, creates an indelible image,
Her brightly colored eyes stare love into the heart of the one she cherishes,
Her smiles beam gladness and for joy, make the spirit leap,
Gracefully, her waist sways, igniting a fire of erotic desires in the mind of the one whom to heart, she has taken,
She is the paragon of beauty...

N/B: Ezewaanyi is the goddess of beauty in the traditional igbo society in the eastern part of Nigeria. The poet uses the believed qualities of this goddess in describing the subject of the poem-the maiden he admires.

THE CALL II

Springing from the developed nations,
Arising from the world of the temperate regions,
Resounding from the regions of the westerns,
Is a call to be delivered from the inimical effects of excess freedom,
Conspicuous in increased incidences of teenage pregnancy, pre-marital sex and crime,
Though not heeded by them to which it pertains,

It's a call to refrain from jeopardizing nature,
To put an end to the pangs of hunger and poverty,
To eliminate the encirclement of gross pain,
And curtail the impacts of an excessively free society,

It's a call with an intensity that increases with the passage of time,
It's a call that has existed for so long a time,
Lingered for decades,
Continued for centuries,
And up to the world to answer.

N/B: The call still continues and it is our responsibility to answer. One step at a time. We can all make a difference. Peace.

THE WORLD COULD USE A LITTLE MORE LOVE

From the hearts and souls of the hungry and poverty-stricken,
From the spirits and bellies of the heart-broken,
Lies a call waiting anxiously to be heard,
A call whose response waits for someone to spearhead,
And yet we all lie around in affluence and abundance,
We walk bye daily, laughing and eating, while those war-torn regions continue to suffer, and those precious souls perish before our wealthy presence,
We say we don't have enough to give,
But yet we waste so much daily, and still have more on which we live,
In all my life, I have come to understand that it takes only a penny or a dime to make a difference,
Ever heard the phrase, "nothing is too small?" Small things sure make a big difference,
Charity sure begins at home,
We can start from the slums of New York city,
Move to the cold streets of Washington DC,
Continue along the hoods of Los Angeles,
Spread to the rugged mountains of Mississippi,
And just spread the love until it becomes nationwide,
Then we can progress beyond the borders of our vicinity,

Religion's legion,
We all claim purity, righteousness and distinction,
And yet find it hard to show a little love,
It's no more a battle of love,
It's now a battle of rights,
A battle of who is right and wrong, and what is wrong and right,
And while we fight over our multiple and diverse stance,
Many lie around us feeling unloved, uncared for and unwelcomed,
Waiting, just waiting for a feel of that godly love,
While we walk around wallowing in selfishness and worldy gains,
They live through life each second battling pains,
And everyday I ask, with sorrows in my heart and tears in my eyes,
Where is the love?
Couldn't the world use a little more love?

WHAT IS LIFE WITHOUT LOVE?

What is life without someone to love?
Of what use are wealth and riches without someone to share them with?
Of what importance is a mansion without someone to make it a home?
And what would be the value of a seed without someone to make it a child?
Baby please tell me,
What is my life without you to love?

Honey, I'm sorry I let a little fight come in between us,
I am sorry I let a little disagreement tear us apart,
I am sorry I let my career come in between us,
Baby, I am so sorry I broke your heart,
By the things I said last night, when we had that fight,

But darling please look at me,
Remember how incomplete my life was before you came along,
Please consider, what it's going to be,
If you leave me now and move right along,
You are the pillar of my life,
The only one I want to call my wife,
You are my fulfillment,
My greatest achievement,
My life is nothing without you to love,

Please don't walk out of that door,
For that would leave my soul lying sore,
Look at me sweetie; I am incomplete without you,
You are my better half, and this is true,
You are the defining part of my prestige and personality,
The only one that puts pride in my entity,
If you leave me now, or ever,
Who would I share my love with?
Who would I build my dreams with?
Who would I share this wealth with?
Baby, please tell me, who?
For my life is nothing without your love.

NOT JUST ANOTHER LOVE SONG

It could have been a cliche when I said you are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen,
It could have been an old over-familiar line, when I said "you make feel better than I've ever been"
It may have also been boring when I said, "roses are red, violets are blue, but you are beautiful",
But baby when I said I loved you, I wasn't trying to sing another love song,

When I said I loved you with all I had, I meant it,
When I said I would give you anything you want, I was actually going to do it,
And when I pledged my love for you to the world, I wasn't showing off,
Truth is honey, I was only trying to unravel the real contents of my heart when I vowed to love you forever,
So please do not take my expression of love as just another love song,
Which today would be sung and heard,
And tomorrow would be no more,
For my love for you is sure forever,

I said it was you or no one else,
And you thought I was joking; you said there'd always be someone else,
I said I will die for you, baby,
And you said I was crazy,
But those were an expression of facts, honey
Sweetie, this feeling is real, true and eternal,
It's not just another love song,

So please know that, through the thick and thin,
I'll be bye you,
Through your darkest nights,
I'll be your light, standing right bye you,
Baby, I'll be glad to die in your arms,
Because I know that you would place my soul in your heart,
Love and cherish it, till we are united in eternity,
Honey, I'm not just saying this,
My lines may be a cliche,
Even my expression of love may be a cliche,
But this one thing I know,
My love for you is not a cliche,
It's not just another love song!
