WORLDS APART II

Like day and night we were,
Like poverty and wealth we seemed,
Like peace and war we turned;
Two worlds apart we were,
Immiscible, like oil on peaceful waters;
Obviously incompatible,
Like rain clouds on a sunny summer morning;
Clearly contradictory,
Like a pauper on a king's throne;
Two worlds apart,

Worst still, this gorgeous maiden swayed her waist,
Each passing day, as she walked past,
Shattering my heart like a work of pottery;
Breaking it like a piece of glassware,
And hurting my emotions like fire coals on an infant's skin,
As I had to face the reality of our worlds being apart,
Then like a dejected beggar,
Like a conquered emperor,
I walked away in shame and bitterness.
