NOT YOUR BODY, BUT YOUR HEART

Baby, countless words on my mind to describe the beauty you possess,
So with the lyrics I write, the words I pen, the notes I sing, it's you I want to address,
By your beauty I'm so beclouded, it titillates me,
By your appearance I am so captivated, it excites me,
But baby as much as I love the beauty that is you,
As much as I desire you,
Your heart is my only goal,
To possess it, protect it, and never leave within it a hole,
Baby truly speaking above all,
It's not your body, but your heart,

I understand that your heart has been broken by those you love,
I understand that your spirit has been shaken by those you thought were sent from above,
So, baby here I am a messenger of love, here to stay with you to the end,
To always be by you and help you go through, like a true friend,
To love you, cherish you, adore you, honor you and respect you,
Through the good times and bad times, through the sun and the storm to be with you,
To take  your heart and keep it in a safe place beyond the reach of pain and hurt,
To take your love and place it deep inside my soul beyond the reach of sorrow and discomfort,
For I am not after the pleasure in your sexuality,
Neither am I after the superficiality of your beauty,
For when it comes down to it, I am really about your heart, not your body.

HER ONLY CRIME

It was on a hot sunny summer afternoon, when I first laid my eyes on her,
She looked so radiant and attractive I instantly desired her,
Her eyes had the perfect glow, her skin the perfect gloss and her lips the right pout,
Her figure had the perfect curves, her smile so warming, it made my heart shout,
And my spirit leapt for joy because of this pretty entity,
She looked so innocent, perfect, and pure, she seemed to have the right personality,
But it didn't take long for me to realize that behind that perfect appearance lay an out-law,
Yes, an out-law, for she had committed a crime punishable by law,
The crime of theft! She stole my heart,
And now I am so in love with her, I think we can never be torn apart.

IT'S NOT OVER...

There I was about to begin this all important race,
I'm so nervous, my heart has changed its pace,
The referee blows the whistle,
I take to my heels, posed to win the gold title,
With the swiftness of the cheetah, and the vision of the eagle,
I am in the lead, victory in my head, I am flying like the eagle,
But then in a twinkling of an eye, from the crowd, someone yells my name,
I turn to look, I was "side-tracted",so I stumbled and fell; now the tale is not going to be the same,
I have been over-taken,
My hope dashed, my vision blurred, my confidence dampened,
I am never going to win this title,
I have just lost the battle,
But wait!

The referee comes to me,
Taps me by the shoulder, picks me up and says, "son this victory was meant to be",
Arise and dust yourself for the race is not over, the battle is not finished, the title cannot be awarded until you win,
This is your victory and you must run till you win,
For no matter how many times you fall,
Your name, the master will still call,
For it is not over until God says it is over,
Child of God, it is not over until you win and cross-over,
It is not over until you rise to the top and pass-over,
So hold on, because this victory is your destiny,
And winning is a sure reality.

WHEN THE ROLL IS CALLED UP

As I write the this poem, I am reminded of the famous line that says, "this world is not my home",
So I'm a sojourner with a destination-a place far beyond the skies, not known to man; a place called home,
But right here in this world of carnality,
Within this realm of mortality,
I experience troubles on every side,
Sometimes it feels so hard fighting the tide,
I even loose my mind,
But I am not discouraged ,
I'm only encouraged,
I am not perplexed,
I am only impressed,
For I know that when the Roll is Called up Yonder,
And my lord appears in His glory, I shall become better and transcend higher,
For on that day I shall rise, as I come into a new dawn,
When the curtain is drawn and my work here is done,
I shall appear before the almighty,
To be with Him for eternity,
This is my glorious hope,
The reason I'm able to persevere and cope,
In the midst of life's many troubles,
And man's many struggles.
So hold on, for our home is far beyond the skies.

THE ONLY ONE...

I remember when I first laid eyes on her,
By her beauty I was stunned, so my whole being came to a stand still as I stared at her,
I recall when we first hugged, our bodies so close, the warmth of her skin brought comfort to my cold soul,
And on the night of our honey moon, as we first united, the purity of her virginity brought satisfaction to my body, spirit and soul,
She is my precious jewel of inestimable value,
Our vows at the altar I will never undo,
So, this Valentine, I want her to know she is The Only One that gives my life its essence,
The Only One whose appearance captures the quintessence of elegance,
I want her to know that she will always be my heart,
And faithful lovers we shall remain, never torn apart,
For she is to me, The Only One,

Baby, this Valentine,
I want you to know that you'll always be mine,
For as long as I live, even beyond death, you'll always be to me The Only One,
I'm grateful to God for you, I'm so grateful that your precious heart, I won,
For in the midst of many suitors, you made me the fairest,
So I would always take you to heart, and you will remain my dearest,
And in the multitude of pretty women, you would forever be to me, The Only One,
So let time stop, let space halt, even if my world comes tumbling down, I would hold you close, for you are to me, The Only One,
Baby, this Valentine,
I want you to know, I'll always love you and you'll always be mine,
I'll buy you gifts; diamonds, pearls, flowers, gems, and every and any treasure I can give and buy,
For you are my one and only one, whose love, beauty and personality, money cannot buy,
I love you honey, and you would always be to me, The Only One.

IF CUPID WAS THE JUDGE...

The world was never in support of our union,
There were the prejudices, the criticisms, the skepticism, and then religion,
Family deserted us and left us alone,
Even close friends wouldn't accept us, their hearts hard as stone,
We were treated like outcasts, and what was our crime? Being in love,
But in the midst of all these I was sure, we were together for a reason, and our love was from above,
So I held unto you,
But as I reminisced about these events in our lives, and all that has happened between me and you,
I thought within myself; if we were summoned to the Love Court, and Cupid was the judge,
I believe his verdict would have been "guilty", for we were both guilty of only one crime, the crime of true love,
But we would have been discharged and acquitted, or may be sentenced to life in "lovement"
I guess only Cupid would have understood,

Baby, we live in a world where the free flow of love has been stifled by the cruel and cold hands of discrimination,
We live in a universe where the freedom of true love has been stolen by the criminal and corrupt arms of segregation,
The society pretends it doesn't care, but when the force of love transcends the borders of religion and race to unite two people,
It jumps on them, and tries to tear and pull down the walls of their love, jeopardize and bastardize the state of their union, to make it cripple,
But if Cupid was the judge, I know he would have sentenced us to a world of lovers,
For committing the crime of love, a world where true lovers abide forever, together,
A world where we are free to fall in love and love one another,
So, I guess only Cupid would understand,

For if Cupid was the judge, our race and religion wouldn't matter,
If Cupid was the judge our nationalities wouldn't hold any water,
If Cupid was the judge our differences wouldn't matter, and our love wouldn't suffer,
Really if Cupid was the judge it wouldn't matter if you were black and I was white,
If Cupid was the judge it wouldn't matter if you were Anglican and I was Presbyterian, right?
So, I guess only Cupid would understand...
